Fat Vincent was overweight, depressed, and surrendered following the death of his owner.  Barely able to walk, he had high cholesterol and his  poor back was bowed due to the excess weight, making him a candidate for nerve damage. But with the love and care of K-9 Angels Rescue, Houston, TX, lots of walking, exercise, even water aerobics, and a good, healthy diet, he has dropped an amazing 18 pounds in just eight months and is now called Skinny Vinnie.

Obesity in animals in not as uncommon as people may think.  Sadly, just as we humans are prone to overeating, our poor dietary habits often extend to our pets.  There are many health issues associated with being overweight and both knowing and understanding those risks and being aware of how they can be avoided, is an important part of pet care. In an article posted on PetMD, Dr.  Sharon Anderson, Memorial Vet Clinic, said “”You know, we CAN really tell when pets are happy, and he is a much happier little dog” adding, in reference to overweight dogs in a shelter, “It might take a little work, but they (an overweight dog) might be a perfect dog, and they’re waiting there.”

Between a Foster Mom who took his weightloss to heart and a good program of diet and exercise supervised by the vet, Skinny Vinnie was not only able to meet his goal, he is now in a forever home.  A truly happy tale for one and all.
